My passion for plants and gardens grew
gradually from childhood, as I came from a family of keen gardeners. But
I also love sport, and after working in both the sport and leisure industry
and in a local hardy plant nursery, I decided that plants and gardens
were for me. I applied for a place at Writtle Agricultural College, in
Essex, and in 1996 I graduated with a Higher National Diploma in Horticulture.
The 3-year course included a year working
in a garden centre and nursery in St Albans, as well as training in all
fields of horticulture, such as propogation, planting, fruit and vegetables
and glasshouse crops, and I gained my chemical spraying certificate.
After graduation I returned to the hardy
plant nursery as manager, and when the nursery closed I became nursery
supervisor at another local garden centre, where I remained for 11 years.
It has long been my wish to have my
own gardening business, an ambition which I have now achieved.
